Piet oudolf shade garden6/29/2023 ![]() Lurie Garden director and head horticulturalist Laura Ekasetya. In advance of the sale, DNAinfo chatted with Lurie Garden's head horticulturalist, Laura Ekasetya, who's been the guardian of Oudolf's plan since 2011 and was named the garden's director in 2017. Because garden centers haven't entirely caught up with Oudolf, the plant sale is one of the few places where gardeners can shop a wide selection of the native species that grow in abundance at Lurie. On Saturday, home gardeners will have an opportunity to buy a piece of the Lurie, at the garden's annual plant sale, 10 a.m. Its pink buds open to reveal feathery clusters. Zodiac by Romina Russell6/29/2023 ![]() I enjoyed the deep space references and the astrological ones too. The action is fast paced and the characters are relatable. You barely get through two chapters and the Zodiac universe almost literally blows up. Rho races through space to save the Zodiac while encountering extreme hostility from almost everyone that she meets about her visions. She has help from her follow brooding Cancerian, her Zodai guide Mathias Thais, and the charming ambassador of Libra, Hysan Dax. When she foresees the next targets, Gemini and Virgo, she goes on an interstellar journey to warn the other Guardians of the upcoming attacks. Despite being the leader of her House and a great Seer, Rho is treated like a child whose advisors do not take seriously when she encounters an evil entity behind the attack on Cancer and other attacks on other zodiac worlds. The story follows a teenage girl, Rhoma Grace, who suddenly becomes one of the youngest Guardians of House Cancer shortly after she foresees in the stars the destruction of her home constellation which ultimately comes true. ![]() ![]() All twelve constellations have a Guardian in charge of leading and representing their signs. In the novel each zodiac has their own civilization whose personalities reflect their respective astrological sign. Venom abyss6/29/2023 ![]() ![]() Let’s just say Eddie needs to figure out two very big mysteries as well as, in a sense, get his mojo back. I don’t want to spoil anything, which is hard with a comic like this since it’s all about big reveals. Cates clearly loves this character and proves as much with his plotting and ideas in this series. The suit is cool, he drools green ooze and not much else. For the longest time, I’ve viewed Venom as a simplistic hero that’s more style than substance. You get that here due to new details emerging as far as the Symbiote goes and also with Eddie’s personal life. With Cates’ work, however, you leave a comic feeling as it mattered. ![]() Often with superhero comics, you get your standard fight, a twist or two, and plenty of good art, but ultimately not much changes in the grand scheme of things. Both contain big twists, big reveals, and story elements other writers would drag out over 30 issues, by Cates gets it done in twelve. Donny Cates is a very generous writer and this collection along with the first one prove it. ![]()
